Looking for good and fun trails for beginners in North Carolina?
Continued from the the previous vlog: Fun Ride at Kitsuma Trail – Thanksgiving Weekend (Day 1 – Friday).
Thanksgiving Weekend (Day 2 – Saturday)
In the morning, Trent asked me where I wanted to ride on that day. I felt that I had done quite a good workout on the day before at Kitsuma Trail, so I wanted to do some easier trails; less technical. But I still wanted to get a good cardio workout. So we decided to go to Lake James State Park in Nebo, North Carolina. We got there around 11.30 am and started our ride.
West Wimba Loop & East Wimba Loop at Lake James | Nebo, North Carolina
Distance 10.4 mi, Elevation 1,102 ft, Moving Time: 1:21:24, Energy Output: 752, Elapsed Time: 1:46:48
More information of this ride is here. https://www.strava.com/activities/1290274023 And if you want, you can follow Trent’s Strava too!
The mountain bike trails here are absolutely great for beginners.
If you’ve just learned how to mountain bike, you should come to ride at Lake James State Park. The trails are smooth and flowy. You also have options to do more miles by combining many loops like we did (West Wimba, and East Wimba loops), or to do less miles by just doing only 1 loop. It is a family friendly park. There is a picnic area close by.
Nan’s Custom Made Phone Holder
I love to wear my road bike pants for mountain biking. But with them, they do not normally come with a pocket that can hold my phone. Since I love to take picture and record video with my phone too, I wanted to be able to access my phone easily. On that day, I made me a custom made phone holder from my Buff and safety pins. It worked great. I found out later that it worked much better when I slid my phone in from another side (from the top to bottom).
Shower at Pilot Travel Center
We finished our ride around 2 pm and headed to take a shower at Pilot Travel Center in Marion, NC. It costs $12/person. And they provided clean towels.
Get Spring Water at Cricket Hill Spring in Black Mountain, NC
Trent made another stop at Cricket Hill Spring to get good fresh spring water from there. Natural spring water is the best. It tastes the best. If you haven’t tried it, you should. Trent always makes sure to get us good spring water whenever we can find it. It’s real spring water, not the one you can find in a bottle.
After that we made another stop for food at The Artisan Gourmet Market. The food here was ok. I ordered Salmon Salad. It seemed to be prepared and sat in a fridge quite some time because my lettuce at the bottom of the dish got freezer burn. Trent ordered a chicken sandwich and his food was good. But we liked the organic and vegetarian selections in their grocery.
So then, it was a time to head back to Blue Ridge Parkway to camp out for another night!
