How I Organize My 2017 Travato for Full-Time Van Life (The Parts They Don’t Show)

Most van tours show an empty, staged van. This is the other kind. I live full-time in my 2017 Travato with my senior golden, Tsali, and this is how I actually organize it. Messy? Yeah. Still worth it? Also yeah.

1. Turn the cab into storage and a laundry line

  • Pillowcases for clothes. I keep my clothes in pillowcases in the cab.
  • An arm prop. I put a pillow on my left so my arm feels okay. I’m too small for this seat.
  • A drying line. A line across the cab holds towels, my swimsuit and my shower rack.

2. Use the overhead cab storage for bulky gear

Up top, I keep camping chairs, sleeping bags and more.

3. Let the passenger seat hold the towels

My passenger seat is packed because I live here full-time. It’s mostly towels I use to cover the bed so Tsali can hop up without wrecking the sheets.

4. Store under the bed

My Travato has twin beds on each side of the hallway, with storage under the passenger-side bed. (Need more hallway room? Here’s my $35 no-drill swing table mod.)

5. Let the wet bath double as a closet

On gym-mode stays, my wet bath becomes storage. When I need a shower, I shuffle everything around first. (I also swapped the sliding door for a curtain: Travato 59K bathroom door hack.)
