Looking for a new action camera for your adventure trips?
On this Vlog, we used the new Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Camera to record every clip. To test it out, we had it set at the same settings (the settings that we thought it should give us the best shots on most of the activities). So we would have a better idea on how to adjust the settings later based on our activities.
Below are the settings on our camera for this vlog:
1080P, 30fps, and Wide Angle Mode.
Since we still did not have any proper mounting accessories for this Sony Action Cam, all of the clips in this vlog were 99.9% hand held. The rest were just set on the ground or solid surface. We didn’t do any color correction in our post production, then we uploaded it to youtube with 720P HD preset.
Hope this will be useful to help you making decision on your purchase.
Sony FDR-X3000
Trent got me an early birthday present this year. He got me a Sony FDR-X3000 4K Action Camera that came with a Live View Remote. I felt like “someone” might have given him a hint of what I’m into now.
I bought Sony AKA-MCP1 Multicoat Protector for Action Cam to protect the lens of the camera when I want to take the diving case off and use it to record me mountain biking or vloging. Since I planed to use this camera as my primary camera on the weekend, I went ahead and bought 2 extra batteries and a battery charger. With all accessories you need, the cost can really add up.
But I know it is worth it for me. Like what they said “Picture worth a thousand words”. My Vlog will be well worth so much more. Oh, this camera can take pretty bad ass pictures too. I know it will be so amazing when old Trent and old Nan are looking back at our adventures we had from our pictures and videos. And more than that, we got to share our experience with you and hope that it will help to inspire you to love outdoor lifestyle and nature.
Saturday Family Ride at Bent Creek
We got to Blue Ride Parkway in North Carolina at 1.30 am and we camped in our car. (We left from Atlanta at 9.30 pm of Friday) The weather was below freezing that night. When we woke up, we could see the froze on the roof of our car. There was ice on the side of the street on BRPW. This was our first winter camping of this year. If you’re interested in winter camping, here is an article on what you need to know about cold weather camping and what gear you need. We had our breakfast where we car camped, and headed down to Bent Creek for mountain biking.
Bent Creek, Asheville North Carolina
Distance 13.8 mi, Elevation 1,868 ft, Moving Time: 2:16:45, Energy Output: 652, Elapsed Time: 3:04:43

After that we went to have our lunch and dinner combo at Sunny Point Cafe in Asheville. If you love breakfast food, you will love this place. Then it was the time to head back up to BRPW to find a camping spot for a night.
We found a good camping spot. Trent wanted to sleep in his hammock and I decided to sleep in a tent. Tsali? He slept right by my tent.
A Wet and Sketchy Sunday on Black Mountain
It should be around 34 – 36°f in the morning. We had our breakfast where we camped. The weather was overcast, misty, and cold. We drove down from BRPW to look for what might be a good and dry trail that we could ride. After we got down from BRPW and close to Dupont State Park, the rain stated to come down more. Not a heavy rain, but it was still the kind that you might not want to ride in. It was still heavy enough to make the trail muddy.
Trent still didn’t want to give up, so we kept driving to find dry trails to ride. We got to the Black Mountain Trail or Clawhammmer Trail area and it was dry. I decided not to ride today because of the weather. Trent went on his ride on Black Mountain. Tsali and I wait for him at the camp site area where he started his ride.
Black Mountain, Brevard North Carolina
Distance 12.5 mi, Elevation 2,560 ft, Moving Time: 1:58:28, Energy Output: 751, Elapsed Time: 2:07:44

And surely, Trent did get some rain on during his ride. Tsali and I stayed dry waiting for Trent in our car. Trent was back at 4.00 pm and it was the time to head back home. We got home around 8.30 pm but it felt so late. I think we were still not totally adjusted with the daylight saving time that happened just a week ago.
Not bad of the first winter camping weekend trip of this year!

Have you seen the Rylo, your viewers would love 360 videos of a ride like this, https://www.instagram.com/p/BdwCImqlOR8/
Oh yes, that’s cool! We have seen some that is similar to that one. It will be a cool feature to have on our videos… or even doing some testing. Maybe one day in the future! Thanks!
