Travato Stock Screen Broke — Why I Switched to The Bug Wall
If you own a Winnebago Travato, you already know the stock sliding bug screen is… fragile.
Mine met its match the day Tsali spotted a squirrel. He bolted for the door and ran straight through the screen. That was the end of the factory sliding screen on my Travato.
I needed something that could handle real van life with a dog — not a screen that only works if everyone walks carefully.
That’s how I ended up with The Bug Wall Travato / Ram ProMaster sliding-door insect screen.
What I bought
Product: Winnebago Travato Ram Promaster Sliding Door Insect Bug Screen from The Bug Wall.
The Bug Wall (official): https://www.thebugwall.com/products/winnebago-travato-ram-promaster-sliding-door-insect-bug-screen
What I paid: $366.28 total
Install: Doug (the owner) installed it for me — he gave me a discount on the screen and didn’t charge for installation. I’m very happy with how it turned out.
(Your price may differ — options, model year, and whether you DIY vs pro install all change the number.)

Why this screen works better for me (and Tsali)
A few things matter every day in my van:
1. Magnetic opening in the middle
Instead of fighting a sliding track, the Bug Wall has a magnetic opening down the middle. You (or a dog) can push through and it snaps back shut. That’s the feature that matters most after a squirrel-chase disaster.
2. It folds / rolls up when I want the door fully open
When I don’t need the screen, I can fold it up out of the way and enjoy a fully open door. Fresh air when I want it — screen when I need it.
3. It’s built as a Travato replacement, not a generic tarp
The Bug Wall makes a Travato / Promaster-specific sliding-door screen. Fit and options (magnet vs zipper, K vs G opening location) matter — order the configuration for your Travato layout.
Honest notes / not sponsored
- Not sponsored. The Bug Wall did not pay me, gift this screen, or ask me to post. This is my personal experience only.
- I bought it. I paid for the screen myself ($366.28 total). Doug (the owner) installed it, gave me a discount on the screen, and did not charge for installation — that was between us as buyer and seller, not a sponsorship.
- I’m not a Bug Wall employee or ambassador.
- “Dog-proof” isn’t a marketing promise from me — it’s why I switched after Tsali destroyed the stock screen. Supervise your pets; every dog is different.
Would I buy it again?
Yes.
Stock screen = one squirrel chase and done.
Bug Wall = magnetic pass-through for daily in-and-out, folds up when I want the door open, and keeps bugs out of my Travato.
If your Travato screen is already torn — or you’re tired of babying it — this is the replacement path I’d point you to.
